This is The BLKM Twinzer
My newest shape and something I've been quietly developing for the past year.
- Now Featured as a radical new Twinzer. Why Twinzer and what is that? The Twinzer is technically a quad set up. There are two standard twin fin keels. In front of those keel fins are two small side fins called canards. The Canards help punch a hole in the water before the main fins run through it. When turning a twin fin, the inside fin is pivoting and also holding the board in the water. By redirecting the water flow the canard “creates a wider effective base” on the main fin, thereby allowing a higher angle of attack. Which helps create sharper turns - while lessening the chance of them spinning out.
In short, canards prime the water, allowing the main fin to work at its best – reducing drag and increasing foil efficiency. And the principle works across all fluid dynamics.
- Inspired by the fastest fish in the ocean, the Black Marlin
- A study in fluid dynamics and biomimicry.
- I’ve been shaping for over 22 years, and the fish was the very first board I ever shaped.
- This new take on the modern fish is a blend and combination of all those experiences, 20+ years of trying and failing, over 20 different fish templates all to come to something magical that I’m really proud of.
A super versatile shape, the BLKM Twinzer is available in standard Groveler/shortboard dimensions and is essentially a one board quiver. Dialed in and refined over the past year through a pumping El Nino Winter and spring. This board can handle anything from 2'-10'.
Based on the outline of the fastest animal in the Sea, the wide point is front of center for added paddle power and more volume up under the chest.
Behind center the board narrows strategically with a subtle side cut and faux wing tail based off the magical design of the black Marlin and to add pivot points to help breakup the outline and drive off of in and out of turns. The fluted faux wing helps with water flow in line with fins.
The bottom contour is what I’m calling a new symmetrical concave. Vee entry in the nose with deep double concave to help create lift in this lower rockered shape. This transitions into deep single at mid point, then double concave through the fins into vee off of the tail.
The BLKM Twinzer is finished off with a unique crescent/swallow tail.
